Can a screw-retained crown go on a natural tooth, or only on an implant?

Can a screw-retained crown go on a natural tooth, or only on an implant?

A screw-retained crown is designed mainly for implants: it connects with a screw to the abutment and is easy to remove for maintenance. On a natural tooth the usual connection is cementation, and there is rarely any reason to use a screw.

What is the practical difference?

A natural tooth has a structure that allows a strong, sealed bond. A screw needs a straight path and an access hole that hurts aesthetics — which makes sense on implants.

When is a screw the right solution?

Mainly when you need a crown that can be removed for maintenance, in posterior areas where aesthetics matter less, or when cementation is likely to fail.

What happens in practice here?

Before every restoration we examine the implant or tooth on site and recommend the connection that fits the specific case — with a clear explanation of pros and cons.
