A crown on a dental implant — how is it different from a regular crown?

Both types of crowns are made of the same aesthetic materials—zirconia or porcelain—but the connection and planning differ. On an implant, the crown connects to an abutment; on a natural tooth, it is cemented to the prepared tooth.

What is different in planning?

On an implant, the position of the abutment and the gum line determine the shape of the crown. A CT scan and precise digital planning allow for a crown that looks natural and functions for years.

Is a crown on an implant less strong?

No; when the planning is correct, a zirconia crown on an implant lasts for many years. The key is proper chewing load and regular maintenance check-ups.

What takes longer?

The fitting process on an implant requires greater precision in the intermediate stages; in our on-site lab, this is performed quickly, with almost no waiting.
